The Kinect may be one of the most popular technological innovations in recent times from Microsoft. And the efforts seem to be paying off as the company has reported an average sale of 100,000 devices every single day since the motion controller went on sale early this month.
According to a press release from Microsoft, the company has sold over 2.5 million Kinects since November 4 this year – it’s taken 25 days for the milestone to be reached. Microsoft has conceded that a primary reason for the impressive numbers is the discounts during the Black Friday shopping season. They also predict an overall sale of 5 million units before the end of the holiday shopping season.
The numbers don’t seem a difficult proposition considering the distribution reach of the Kinect. The new webcam based motion controller is already available at over 60,000 retailers in 38 countries around the world. Now we wonder if the popularity of Kinect could also drive up the sale of the XBox as consumers pick the console over rivals in order to check out the new Kinect games.
